Gone Baby, Agonda. (Sad face)

8 Feb

20130208-131930.jpg Well we’re not quite gone yet, but soon. All too soon, more’s the pity. After leaving Palolem we cruised 10k north in a tuk tuk before arriving at Agonda. Whilst we had every intention of shopping around for a good deal on a beach hut, the first place we walked into served the purpose (it had a bed, a mozzie net, and a toilet- we’re very easily pleased these days)and was quoted at a mere 800 rupees a night (£10)! Sold.

20130208-132424.jpg It’s simple, but we call it home.

Agonda is MUCH quieter than Palolem, very chilled and not really much going on except for a bit of yoga and a few cows cruising up and down the beach, looking for hotties.

One other real entertainment has come in the form of a blond girl living in one of the huts nearby who likes to partake in a nightly amateur photo shoot around sunset…

20130208-132844.jpg The night before this she was on a horse. Not riding it, just having photos on it. I’m not even kidding.

So our final few days in India have been filled with sun worship, eating, drinking and reading (I’ve really gotten into the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books- they’re a bit good aren’t they?! Though they do make me ever so slightly paranoid in our hut with just one flimsy bold on the door and a corrugated iron roof. One night I woke bolt upright after hearing a loud noise…turned out it was just a mouse knocking things over. Standard). Anyway! I’ll let Kieran share his thought with you on our final destination….
So, the Indian sand timer is slowly running out and even though that’s usually a by-word for slowness the ‘oul 24hour day is still our measuring stick. Agonda is full of Yoga/meditation/ Ayurvedic/stoner folk and everywhere you look someone is paying tribute to the sea or stretching an ankle around their ear, it all looks far too energetic for us. Weather has been a steady 30 plus and we like nothing more than a few beers around 5 before dinner.simple pleasures.

20130208-135537.jpg We did find this place that did a cracking prawn Kadai on Wednesday night. We loved the name so much we had to take this picture.

We hired a boogie board/bodyboard yesterday and tore up the seas somewhat. The sea has been pretty aggressive here the last two days, Great for surfing I imagine but tough if you just wanna do a few ‘oul laps.
What we have also found a bit different is the evening stroll to dinner. In Palolem we would easily be able to stroll along the beach and peek In at the various Restaurants and see what fish they had to offer, In Agonda the beach ain’t lit up at all! We have tried to make our way thru the sand to find a place to dine but the lack of illumination has been a pain. It seems some of our neighbours have plans to stay 3 weeks to a month here, I’m not sure that we could manage all that time without having an activity or sport to entertain you…
As we write this blog now we have had to deal with a power cut which certainly ain’t ideal but we have gotten used to it in India. Another thing that amazes me about this country- nuclear weapons, sure, yet frequent power cuts, priorities folks?
We did have big plans to visit a place last night which looked very tempting on Wednesday as we walked home, sadly when we went there last night to see what the story was the fella seemed to be quoting prices he pulled out of his ears. We ended up in a place which I think wanted to be called “Arabian Nights” but the sign painter settled for “Arabia nights” same difference no? Rebecca thinks Labia nights might have been better. We had a chat to the “chef” and decided upon the biggest fish he had, called Butterfish. It sounded pretty tasty so we gave it a try!

Notice the ever reliable mini bottle of anti bacteria gel in the top left corner. We feel quite proud that we have made it 5 weeks without any funny business tummy wise (Becs: touch wood touch wood!)
Fingers crossed tonight’s meal is better still and we will have some more tasty pics to show you all!
Sunday we have a bit of a nightmare journey to the airport, two local buses from Chaudi which we will have to get a tuk tuk to. Ah well, Sunday night in Mumbai then flight Monday back to Blighty.
We hope you’ve been keeping her warm for us? What’s that? snow?! Bex call the travel agent…..
